The Hudson Valley stretches from Westchester County in the south to Albany, the state capital, in the north. Generally, the valley can be divided into three distinct regions:
Upper Hudson Valley: Consisting of Albany, Columbia, Rensselaer and Greene counties, the upper Hudson reflects the transition from exurban communities to rural, with an increase in farmland and wide open spaces.
Mid-Hudson Valley: The central portion of the valley comprises Dutchess and Putnam counties to the east of the Hudson and Ulster and Orange counties to the west.
Lower Hudson Valley: Comprised primarily of Westchester and Rockland counties, this region is marked by its urban affluence thanks to its proximity to New York City.
