The country home of Ogden and Ruth Livingston Mills, built in 1895-96 and furnished in the styles of Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI.

Set on 900 acres with direct access to the Hudson River, the property offers plenty of room for strolling and river watching.

It's a million-dollar view! And, of course, there is the house, renovated in the 19th century in Greek Revival style.

It's fun to see the differences between the 1832 house and as it stands today. In addition, the Mills Mansion has opened a museum store.

The hamlet of Staatsburg, in northern Dutchess County, is believed to be the oldest settlement in the Town of Hyde Park. One of the main streets, Old Post Road, is a step back in time.

The narrow lane, lined by trees and stone walls, is a monument to past eras. Most of the Victorian homes there date to the late 1700s and the original exteriors have been preserved. This river-side hamlet originally flourished from commerce generated in nearby farms and estates and from ice-cutting and tool industries.

Today, this hamlet has become a playground for weekenders and summer renters.

One popular attraction is the Dinsmore Golf Course, on Old Post Road. Said to be the oldest private course in America, the original nine-hole course was used by locals for games and tournaments.

Now it has become what locals call "a hopping place'' for a day of golf. The course circles south to the Golf Course Restaurant, on Route 9. After you are done with your game, you can unwind with scenic river and mountain views while eating lunch.
