Autumn tours, festivals fill Hudson Valley weekends
The mid-Hudson Valley is alive with history and special activities
abound during the fall to keep adults and children happy.
The National Parks Service operates three historic sites in Hyde Park.
The Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Site on Route 9, the Eleanor
Roosevelt National Historic Site (Val-Kill) on Route 9G and the Vanderbilt
Mansion National Historic Site on Route 9 are gearing up for the carloads
of visitors who traditionally flock there to enjoy the crisp autumn weather.
"Visitors can tour the homes and the presidential library museum,"
says the parks service's Marilyn Keeler.
Every October, the Mills Mansion hosts the Annual Gathering of Old Cars,
co-sponsored with the Red Hook Car Club.
Antique automobiles will be on display and car capers, along with a costume
show, will take place amidst the magnificent autumn vistas. Admission
is free and tours of the mansion will also be available.
Information regarding other activities in the Hudson Valley is available
by calling the Dutchess County Department of Tourism at (845) 463-4000.
